To maintain apartment interiors in good condition, it is the JCHA's maintenance policy that the apartment walls and trim around windows and doors be painted at least once every three years.

Resident Responsibility: Painting Standard

bulletApartment must be painted with water-based latex paint and the work must be done neatly, avoiding spillage on the floors, appliances, windows, etc.

Prohibited

bulletDark colors may not be used on any surfaces;
bulletTextured paint, such as stucco may not be used on any surfaces;
bulletWallpaper, mirror tiles, wood paneling or other adhesives may not be applied to any surface.

Reimbursement for Painting Expenses

bulletThe Site Manager will inspect the apartment after the resident has completed the painting.  If the Manager determines that the apartment meets the painting standards described above, the resident will be reimbursed (by a check, not a rent credit) according to a schedule of payments determined by bedroom size.

Special Cases

bulletAlternative methods of meeting the apartment painting standard for senior residents or residents with physical disabilities who are not able to do the painting themselves are being developed by a JCHA focus group.

Apartment Painting Reimbursement Schedule

To maintain apartment interiors in good condition, it is the JCHA's Maintenance Policy that the apartment walls and trim around windows and doors be painted once every three years.  To encourage this effort, residents will be reimbursed by check according to the following schedule of payments determined by apartment bedroom size once it is determined by the Site Manager that the apartment meets the painting standards as outlined in the policy.

Residents will receive reimbursement for painting individual rooms, ceilings or walls.  However, the total amount given must not exceed the appropriate amount for the bedroom size and will be processed ONCE in a three year period.
