Job Placement with Local Employers

Linkages to entry level jobs in local private sector businesses include: United Airlines, UPS, Enterprise Rent-a-Car, MetLife, Meadowlands Sports Complex, Delta Airlines and Public Service Electric & Gas, coordinated with the Job Readiness Workshops and including follow-up with residents and continued progress assessment.

 

Drug and Alcohol Prevention Program The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence of Hudson County (NCADD)

Program to reduce the risk of alcohol and drug abuse and to improve family management skills in single parent households with children ages 4-12 at the Lafayette Gardens HOPE VI public housing development.

 

Parenting Program

Educational-based Parenting classes that foster greater parental involvement in their child's school experience and which result in more frequent and meaningful communication between parents and teachers and other school professionals.

 

Leadership Development Program (NJCU's COPC Project)

Monthly training sessions to develop leaders in the revitalized area.  Topics include: identifying community assets, reading maps and architectural drawings, conducting effective meetings, conflict resolution, working in diverse communities and making your case before local officials.

 

Neighborhood Networks

Computer Learning Center, located in the new management offices to be used by residents to learn and practice basic computer skills and for job-related activities (resume writing, internet job search, personal e-mail accounts for corresponding with employers, etc.).  Volunteer and paid interns from St. Peter's College and New Jersey City University will work as individual tutors.

 

Business Development Program

Will provide assistance to the area's low-income residents in starting small businesses, positioning them for the "Section 3 preference" in the construction contracts generated by the HOPE VI Revitalization Program.
